CMC Mission

CMC is dedicated to:

  • Promoting the Chicago music community locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Serving as the independent advocate for the community with government and the private sector
  • Nurturing the community towards future growth

Welcome to the CMC Blog

Welcome to the Chicago Music Commission’s blog. CMC will use the blog to facilitate a wide-ranging discussion about Chicago music and to keep you updated on news affecting Chicago’s music community, including CMC’s independent take on everything from Chicago music and music business news to legislative updates on what’s happening in Chicago government to national arts news.

We think there has been too little conversation about Chicago music, so we’re looking for a vibrant, spirited dialogue. Thank you for your interest in Chicago music.

Welcome to ChicagoFestivals.net

We have compiled listings and schedules for as many of the free Chicago festivals that we can find! These are compiled in easy to read lists by festival on our new festivals website. Included wherever possible are hyperlinks to the artists website so that you are one click away from finding out in advance something about the artists you are going to enjoy (or doing some research when you get home!)

Resources

We have started to compile a searchable listing of resources within the Chicago music community. It is time for you to pitch in! If you own a business and want to be listed, please fill out the form on the resource page. If you know of a business that you think we should list, also fill out the form. We will post them as soon as they are verified. Meanwhile, check out the searchable database.

This forum will discuss all aspects of touring and booking out of town gigs. When do you decide to start touring? How do you plan a multi-city tour? How do you find the right venues? How does a bluegrass band's touring plan differ from an indie band? How do you promote your out of town gigs? How big a part can summer festivals play in touring?
