We would also appreciate reading your comments on the following questions related to the draft ordinance:

  1. If you own or manage a venue, do you require promoters to sign contracts? How do you verify the reputation of a potential promoter? What controls do you put in place to manage who attends your event and control crowds?
  2. Have you recently attended music events that you considered unsafe? Where was the event and why did you feel unsafe?
  3. What effect will the costs of the license as proposed have on you and your business, including the requirement of purchasing a minimum of $300,000 insurance policy?
  4. If you are a promoter, where in the region do you promote shows? What types of performers and venues do you work with?
  5. If you are a performer, how do you get the word out about your music and shows? Do you help your friends promote their music and shows?
  6. Should promoters under 21 years of age be allowed to promote events?
  7. What do you think of the proposed language that a promoter seeking to do business with a venue that has fixed seating (bolted down) will be exempt from needing a license but promoters must receive a license to do businesses with those venues that do not have bolted-down seating?
  8. In your experience, what differences exist between venues that mostly offer live music and more traditional bars?
  9. What is your opinion of the relationship between City enforcement authorities (Chicago Police and Fire Departments, Department of Business Affairs and Licensing) and the music community?
  10. Other Comments?
