City Meets With Event Promoters and Venue Owners to Discuss the Proposed Event Promoters Ordinance

Today, the Department of Business Affairs & Licensing (DBA), along with Alderman Schulter, Chairman of the Committee on Consumer Protection and Licensing, members of committee and venue owners and event promoter industry professionals met again to discuss the proposed Event Promoter License.

Since the origination of this ordinance in 2006, the City, working in partnership with the industry has made several amendments to address the industry?s concerns and ensure the overall safety of patrons and the industry. Two additional meetings were held today, making this the 11th and 12th time the City has sat down with music venue owners, event promoters and organizational groups to further review the Event Promoter Ordinance, clarify public misconceptions of the ordinance and discuss new areas of concern.

Some additional points were raised by the industry that will be reviewed for consideration which includes: a one time event license, the insurance requirement and the age of promoters, currently required to be 21.

DBA has posted the current facts about the proposed Event Promoters License on its website to ensure the general public understands the ordinance and dispel the many misconceptions of the ordnance.
