Dear Friend of Chicago Music

The Chicago Music Commission is again preparing to submit Chicago music for the city’s Airport Music Program. This program provides music year-around playing in both Chicago airports, bringing our city’s music to travelers from all over the world. The CMC is proud to be serving Chicago’s music community with this program.

We are soliciting CDs (no digital files please) of music by Chicago area musicians and recorded in the Chicago area. These will be screened initially by our committee and then submitted to the airport authorities for a final screening. Thirty CDs will be chosen for the 2010 final list. Any received after the deadline will be held for the 2011 program. We expect to receive many more submissions than the program can accommodate.

Here’s what the airport is looking for:
1) they lean toward instrumental music though some vocal music is used
2)
absolutely no lyrics or language that could be considered offensive by anyone
3)
no religious music
4)
no hip hop
5)
they want to avoid music they consider “frenetic.” They aim to soothe and relax travelers.

Please send any submissions by Dec. 1 to Chicago Music Commission, Box 60234, Chicago, IL 60660 and put AIRPORT MUSIC PROGRAM on the outside of the package.

Please do NOT call or email us about whether your recording has been included in the Airport Music Program. We will post the final list on the CMC website as soon as it is completed. As this must pass both our own committee and the airport’s screening, it will be some weeks before the process is completed.

Sincerely
The Chicago Music Commission Board of Directors
